Wroblewski will join UD football coaching staff

Damian Wroblewski has been named offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for the Fightin’ Blue Hens football team.

11:55 a.m., Jan. 17, 2007--Damian Wroblewski (at right) has been named offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Delaware football team, Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach K.C. Keeler announced Wednesday.

Wroblewski, 30, who served last season at the State University of New York Stony Brook following two seasons each at the University of Pennsylvania and Hofstra University, replaces Jim Turner, who resigned earlier this month after two seasons on the UD staff to take the same position at Boston College.

A native of Westerly, R.I., Wroblewski attended Lafayette College and earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1999. He was a four-year member of the Lafayette football team as a center, was a three-time All-Patriot League selection and earned the team's Stony Jones Award as the team most valuable player as a senior.

He began his coaching career at NCAA Division II Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., where he served as offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

He moved to the NCAA Division I-AA level, now known as the Football Championship Subdivision, in 2002 as offensive tackles and tight ends coach and special teams coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania. He helped lead the nationally-ranked Quakers to a two-year record of 19-1, including a perfect 14-0 mark in league play as Penn captured consecutive Ivy League titles in 2002 and 2003.

After his stint at Penn, Wroblewski moved on to Hofstra University, where he served for two seasons as offensive line coach. He coached three All-Atlantic 10 Conference selections during his tenure at Hofstra, including NFL draft pick Willie Colon, now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wroblewski moved to Stony Brook last season.

Wroblewski inherits an offensive line that returns all five starters and two other letter winners from the 2006 team. The unit is led by third-year starter Mike Byrne, who earned third team All-Atlantic 10 honors at tackle last season, and third-year starting guard Rich Beverley.
