The Baltimore Consort

4:17 p.m., Jan. 23, 2007--The University of Delaware's 2006-07 Performing Arts Series and the Family Performing Arts Series includes a wide variety of music, dance and theatre. The Baltimore Consort will come to UD for the next concert in the Performing Arts Series on Friday, Jan. 26.

All performances are in Mitchell Hall. Performing Arts Series programs begin at 8 p.m. and Family Performing Arts Series programs begin at 2 p.m. A run-down on the season follows.

Performing Arts Series

The Baltimore Consort

This sextet, set to perform on Friday, Jan. 26, specializes in the courtly and popular music of the 16th to 18th centuries, as well as traditional music rooted in earlier times. The variety of instruments on which they perform--including a lute, a viol, a cittern, a rebec, a crumhorn and a bandora--have delighted and educated audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, and they were recently named by Billboard Magazine as Top Classical Crossover Artist. Together since 1980, the ensemble has performed widely in the United States and abroad, as well as on syndicated radio broadcasts.

Philadanco

The acclaimed Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) will perform Friday, Feb. 16. Held in high esteem both nationally and internationally, Philadanco is a nonprofit professional dance organization with a 35-year history rich in contemporary dance, choreography and training. The current troupe includes dancers who have traveled the world performing sold-out shows at venues as diverse as Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and the American Dance Festival.

Amadeus Trio

This ensemble, set to perform Friday, March 9, occupies a position among the foremost piano trios in the world. The three artists, pianist Marian Hahn, violinist Timothy Baker and cellist Jeffrey Solow, are recognized for their musicianship and virtuosity. The trio has appeared at chamber music festivals throughout the United States and Europe and has given world premieres of three commissioned works. In recent seasons, Amadeus Trio has championed the music of Hispanic composers.

Xiang Gao and Friends III

World-class violinist Xiang Gao will perform on a Stradivarius violin in this collaborative performance with pianist Howard Watkins of the Metropolitan Opera, set for Friday, May 18. As a member of the acclaimed China Magpie ensemble under Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, Gao also will be joined by classical musicians Wu Tong, Lui Lin and Hui Li, who performed a sold-out event two years ago for UD's Master Players Chamber Series.

Family Performing Arts Series

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
This musical adaptation, based on the classic children's adventure story by C.S. Lewis, is set for Sunday, Feb. 4. The tale follows four children of war-torn England who accidentally discover the enchanted land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. Once inside, they are faced with decisions and responsibilities that will determine both their own--and the land of Narnia's--future.

Junie B. Jones
In this tale of elementary school angst, set for Sunday, March 11, Junie B. Jones will enter first grade, get used to a new teacher, new friends and new glasses, and deal with the changes in ways that are guaranteed to get laughs and leave a lasting impression.

Harry the Dirty Dog
The dirty dog loved by generations will get dirty once again in a Sunday, April 15, staged production of the well-loved classic tale of the little white dog with black spots. After spending a day in the dirt, Harry turns into a black dog with white spots only to return home to a family that doesn't recognize him.
