Blue-Gold All-star football coaches named

4:06 p.m., Jan. 25, 2007--DFRC and the Delaware Inter Scholastic Football Coaches Association (DIFCA) have announced the head coaches for the 52nd annual DFRC Blue-Gold All-star Football Game. The selections were made by DIFCA.

Mike Tkach of Milford will lead the Gold Squad, while Howard's Dan Ritter will coach the Blue Squad.

Tkach has coached six seasons at Milford High School, including five as the school's head coach. Before taking his current position at Milford, Tkach was a certified trainer for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA.

"It is quite an honor to be chosen to take part in this wonderful event and am very thankful for this opportunity," Tkach said. "I've enjoyed working with the Blue-Gold organization under DFRC, as well as, the hand-in-hand program with the ambassadors, players and their buddies.”

Tkach has selected Carlton Brown of Dover, Ed Manlove of Laurel and David Carter and Chris Johnson, both of Milford, as his assistant coaches.

Ritter has been to the Blue-Gold game before as a player for the Gold Squad in 1989 representing Glasgow High School. He has been coaching for 14 seasons and is in his sixth season as the head coach at Howard.

"I can't say enough about my experience as a player and am honored to be a part of the DFRC family as a coach,” Ritter said. He has selected Matt Rice of Howard, Franz Kappel of Hodgson and George Kosanovich and Greg Mitchell, both from Concord, to assistant him.

DFRC sponsors the Blue-Gold All-star Football Game. This year's game will mark the 52nd time the game has been played.

Proceeds from the game benefit programs for individuals with cognitive disabilities throughout Delaware. The 2007 game will be held at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium on June 23, with pregame activities beginning at 6 p.m. and kick-off at 7 p.m.
