Abstracts sought for water resources conference

11:52 a.m., Jan. 5, 2007--Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for oral presentations and posters for the upcoming annual conference of the Mid-Atlantic sections of the American Water Resources Association, representing the Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia sections. The conference will be held Sept. 19-21 at UD's Clayton Hall Conference Center.

Abstracts must relate to the conference theme--“Green Opportunities for a Blue Resource: An Economic Perspective”--and are due by Thursday, Feb. 15. Selections will be based on technical and policy merit and relevance to topics such as the following:

  • Recreational opportunities;
  • Drinking-water supplies;
  • Industrial uses;
  • Restoration projects;
  • Riverfront development projects;
  • Property values;
  • Ecotourism;
  • Nutrient trading;
  • Mitigation banks;
  • Valuation of natural resources;
  • Green technologies;
  • Redevelopment; and
  • Creative funding strategies (generating funds, penalty funds, corporate partnerships, interstate initiatives).

Founded in 1964, the American Water Resources Association is a nonprofit, professional association dedicated to the advancement of men and women in water resources management, research and education. Its members include engineers, educators, foresters, biologists, ecologists, geographers, managers, regulators, hydrologists and attorneys.

The Delaware section of the association includes staff from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Delaware's Tributary Action Teams and the Water Resources Agency at UD, which is based at the Institute for Public Administration in the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.
