Gilbert Annex ground-floor residents relocated

11:41 a.m., Jan. 31, 2007--Five University of Delaware students living in the ground floor of the Gilbert Annex are being relocated to other rooms on campus for the spring semester after mold was discovered in that section of the residence hall.

Housing Assignment Services is working with all the students to move them to other residence hall spaces on campus.

Recognizing that some residents of the first floor of the Gilbert Annex might have concerns, students on that floor will be offered the opportunity to move to other available spaces on campus.

Officials with the UD departments of Occupational Health and Safety and Facilities found the mold, which was caused by water line leaks.

Since the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in the Gilbert Annex is separate by floor, it is possible to seal off the ground floor from the first floor during the cleaning and abatement process. There is no indication that the first floor has been affected by this situation.
