Hens women’s lacrosse picked sixth in CAA

UD’s Stacey McPartland

8:04 a.m., Feb. 19, 2007--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team, which returns three of its five leading scorers, has been picked to finish sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association in a preseason poll of conference head coaches.

James Madison University was picked to repeat as CAA champion, claiming seven first place votes and 49 total points. Hofstra University received the only other first place vote and 39 total points, and was followed by Towson University (34), the College of William & Mary (30), George Mason University (28), Delaware (19), Drexel University (13) and Old Dominion University (12).

The Fightin' Blue Hens, led by Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca, will open the season at noon, Saturday, Feb. 24, at Penn State University. The Hens will open CAA play April 1 against Towson at Rullo Stadium, and the conference tournament will be held May 4-6.

UD returns 2006 CAA All-Rookie selections Stacey McPartland and Debbie Sloan. McPartland, who was also named to the All-CAA second team, started 14 games and anchored the defense. Sloan, the team's leading freshman in assists in 2006, will play a major role in the team's offense this season.

UD also returns Casey McCrudden, the team's leading scorer last season in goals (38) and points (46), and sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny, who was fifth in the CAA with 7.81 saves per game and a .425 save percentage.
