UD women’s basketball tops UNC Wilmington

UD senior guard Alena Koshansky scored 22 points in Thursday’s victory over UNC Wilmington.

8:22 a.m., Feb. 16, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball team defeated the University of North Carolina Wilmington 80-62 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens bounced back from a 63-47 loss at Old Dominion University and raised their record to 21-4 overall and 12-2 in the CAA. UD will travel to Towson University for a game at 2 p.m., Sunday, before returning home to face conference leader James Madison University at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22.

The James Madison game will be UD Employees Night at the game, and the athletics department is making 1,000 free tickets available to University employees. The free tickets are now available at the University Bookstore in the Perkins Student Center and the YoUDee Shop in the Trabant University Center. UD employees must show proper identification and there is a limit of four tickets per person.

In Thursday's victory, UD senior guard Alena Koshansky scored a season high 22 points and hit six three-point baskets, tying the UD record. Fellow senior guard Tyresa Smith also had 22 points, and added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Junior guard Kyle DeHaven was the other double figure scorer for the Hens, with 11 points, while senior forward Chrissy Fisher added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore center Farrah Ferguson set a career high with six blocks and scored six points, while sophomore Ethlynne Thomas came off the bench to add a career best six points and three rebounds.
