UD women’s basketball defeats Georgia State

Tyresa Smith scored 24 points in the victory over Georgia State.

9:20 a.m., Feb. 5, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball went on a 24-2 run in the second half to defeat Georgia State University 85-66 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 19-3 overall and 10-1 in the CAA, where they are in second place behind James Madison University.

The Hens will take to the road for a pair of conference games this week, visiting George Mason University at 7 p.m., Thursday, and Old Dominion University at 1 p.m., Sunday. George Mason is 8-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference, while perennial power Old Dominion is 13-8 overall and 9-1 in the CAA.

In Sunday's victory, the Hens were led by seniors Tyresa Smith, who had 24 points and five rebounds, and Chrissy Fisher, who had 22 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Kyle DeHaven, starting in place of Melissa Czorniewy, who is out for the rest of the season with a back injury, scored 16 points and senior point guard Alena Koshansky scored 10.
