Blue Hen indoor track athletes win, set records
8:32 a.m., Feb. 19, 2007--University of Delaware athletes captured seven first place finishes, including two by sophomore Amanda Marshall, at the Princeton Indoor Track and Field Invitational held Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium. Also at the meet, sophomore Michelle Gomes and senior Asha Quant set school records. Marshall won the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 2.25 inches and also won the weight throw with a personal best toss of 52 feet, 8.25 inches, the fourth best throw in school history. Gomes set a new school record as she won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.66, breaking the mark of 7.73 set by current teammate Brittany Wright in 2005. Quant won the 200-meter dash in 26.01, finished second to Gomes in the 60-meter dash in 7.88 and finished second in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 0.75 inches, breaking the school record of 18 feet, 10.75 inches set by Mandy Stille in 2004. UD sophomore Kelli McDonald won her fourth meet title of the year as she captured the pole vault with a leap of 12 feet, 1 inch, the second best jump in school history. Rachel Young finished second in the shot put (41 feet, 11.5 inches), Alexi Capsouras finished second in the 400-meter dash (59.70) and Wright finished second in the 200-meter dash (26.27). The 4x400-meter relay team of Capsouras, Laura Heenan, Cristine Marquez and Quant (3:55.02) finished second, and Wright finished third in the 60-meter dash (7.90). In men's competition, UD got wins from freshman Nick Morrissey in the 200-meter dash (23.06) and from senior Kyle Schmid in the 3,000-meter run (8:47.32). Brandon Swartout finished second in the long jump (22 feet, 5.25 inches), Mike Ward finished second in the 3,000-meter run (8:58.59), Kyle Nagy finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.10) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.21) and Jared Wasser finished third in the shot put (51 feet, 6.25 inches). Also, Conrad Rapp finished fourth in the pole vault (14 feet, 11 inches) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Steven Jackson, Chris Johnson, Morrissey and Mike Roth finished fourth (3:27.99). |
