Student Activities Night draws hundreds

4:45 p.m., Feb. 7, 2007--More than 400 students attended the spring semester Student Activities Night, held from 7-9 p.m., Feb. 6, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

The two-hour event showcased 82 registered student organizations that included club sports at UD, special interest groups, multicultural Greek organizations and the Interfraternity Greek Council, where students interested in joining a particular sorority or fraternity could learn more about pledging.

The annual event, similar to Student Activities Night held the first week of fall semester, gave both new students and returning students the opportunity to learn more about the variety of organizations on campus and the chance to acquire information before committing.

Lalena Luna, program coordinator for Student Centers, said the spring activities night is valuable for both transfer and freshman students and that turnout at the event was good.

“Activities night gives students transferring in the middle of the year the opportunity to see what activities are offered on campus,” Luna said. “Freshman who came in September who are thinking about ways to get involved outside the classroom also can come with specific interests in mind.”

Luna said that groups represented at the event showed the wide range of extracurricular activities and interests available at UD, which is the primary goal of the night.

“We aim to show students that there is a lot to do on campus, and many ways to get involved outside of class,” Luna said. “The opportunities are so varied that no student can ever say that they are bored on campus.”

The free event was sponsored by the Activities and Programs Office. Student Activities Night is part of the "Just UDo It" campaign, designed to increase awareness of the many sanctioned, organized activities UD has to offer students.
