Synchronized skating team wins bronze at nationals

4:33 p.m., Feb. 28, 2007--The University of Delaware's Collegiate Synchronized Skating Team took the bronze medal at the 2007 U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships, held Feb. 22-25, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Blue Hens skated a flawless program to the soundtrack from the musical “Wicked.”

“We really wanted to emphasize the performance and forget about little mistakes they made. We felt as though the team gave its all and really presented the program,” Megan O'Donnell, skating team coach, said.

She said Delaware excelled in its presentation from the moment the skaters got onto the ice to their exit. “In order to achieve this high level of finesse, Delaware skaters worked on their expression at every practice...until the wink and pout became natural. Delaware's technical elements were just as strong, and the skaters have worked hard to improve the most difficult elements,” O'Donnell said.

The team is the reigning Eastern Sectional Champion, earning three national medals during the past four years.
