Exhibition at UD by world-class skaters slated March 3
3:42 p.m., Feb. 7, 2007--World and national champion Kimmie Meissner will be featured at a University of Delaware World Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition to be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. Meissner, 17, who competes for the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, won the 2007 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championship on Jan. 27 in Spokane, Wash. She is preparing to defend her 2006 world title at the International Skating Union championships, to be held March 19-25 in Tokyo. She will perform twice during the show. Joining Meissner on the ice will be reigning world ice dance champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski of Bulgaria, U.S. national silver medalists and 2006 Olympic team members Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, Japanese world team members Nozomi Watanabe and Akiyuki Kido, who train at UD, and a number of other University-based skaters. The skating exhibition is sponsored by Skatebuys and the News Journal. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $12 for senior citizens 62 and older, children 18 and younger, and UD faculty and staff, and can be purchased at UD box offices at the Trabant University Center or the Bob Carpenter Center, or through Ticketmaster [www.ticketmaster.com]. Tickets are $10 for groups of 10 or more. Call (302) 831-6038 to make group arrangements. It is highly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance because the national send-off exhibition held in January sold out. Photo by Kathy Atkinson |
