Police seek suspect in Newark hotel robbery

11:07 a.m., Feb. 12, 2007--Newark Police are searching for a man following an armed robbery at the Howard Johnson Inn and Suites, located on South College Avenue near the I-95 interchange, at 11:23 p.m., Friday.

Police said the suspect entered the front lobby and demanded that the desk clerk hand over all of the paper currency in the cash register, implying that he had a handgun and threatening to shoot the clerk if she did not comply. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled toward I-95.

Police said the suspect is described as a man in his mid to late 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall, and of average build. He was wearing a black jacket, possibly with a hood, had a black scarf across his nose and mouth and wore dark-colored pants and shoes.

Anyone with information on this incident should call Newark Police Det. Conover at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
