UD’s Kimmie Meissner wins at Four Continents

12:02 p.m., Feb. 12, 2007--Kimmie Meissner of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club followed her recent national championship with a gold medal at the Four Continents Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Meissner came from sixth place after her short program to win the Four Continents title with a strong free skate on Saturday afternoon. She was followed in the standings by American teammate Emily Hughes and Canada's Joannie Rochette. Finishing in 20th place was Ami Parekh of India, who trains at the UD Ice Skating Science Development Center.

Also from UD, ice dancers Kimberly Navarro and Brent Bommentre finished in fifth place in an event won by Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon of Canada. America's Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto finished second.

In the men's competition, Joel Watson of New Zealand, who trains at UD, finished in 14th place.
