UD falls to Northeastern in CAA men’s basketball

UD’s Sam McMahon scored 24 points in the loss to Northeastern.

8:14 a.m., Feb. 22, 2007--The University of Delaware men's basketball team fell 70-61 to Northeastern University in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

It was the final home game of the season for the Fightin' Blue Hens, who fell to 5-24 overall and 3-13 in the conference. The Hens have just one regular season contest remaining and will travel to face the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24.

The CAA tournament will be played March 2-5 at the Richmond (Va.) Coliseum.

Against Northeastern, junior Sam McMahon scored 24 points, junior Herb Courtney had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and freshman point guard Brian Johnson had 17 points.

“I'm proud of our guys because they kept fighting tonight,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross said. “We didn't do a great job of taking away their three-point shooting and that hurt us. Our fans have been very supportive all year long and I'm chomping at the bit to give them something to cheer for in the future.”
