Hen men’s basketball falls 77-62 to Drexel

UD junior Sam McMahon scored 27 points, a career high, in the loss to Drexel.

8:50 a.m., Feb. 12, 2007--The University of Delaware men's basketball team fell 77-62 to host Drexel University in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Center in Philadelphia.

Junior guard Sam McMahon scored 27 points, a career high, to lead the Fightin' Blue Hens. Junior forward Herb Courtney had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UD trailed 31-27 at halftime and came out firing at the start of the second half to tie the game at 32-32 with 18:59 remaining. Drexel then went on a 16-0 run to pull away, although the Hens battled back to within three points midway through the second half. A second Drexel run, this one 12-2, put the game away.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 5-21 overall and 3-12 in the CAA. They will take on George Mason University, which last year advanced to the NCAA Final Four, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bob Carpenter Center. George Mason is 13-12 overall and 7-8 in the conference after a loss Saturday to Hofstra University.

UD will take a brief break from conference play with an ESPNU Bracket Busters game against Iona College at 7 p.m., Saturday, at The Bob. Iona is 1-24 with its lone win a 69-57 victory over Rider University.
