University student hurt in hit-and-run incident

9:23 a.m., Feb. 21, 2007--A University of Delaware student was injured in a hit and run incident at New Street and North Chapel Street at 12:56 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, according to Newark Police, who said the vehicle that struck her fled the scene.

Police said the injured student is Alison Harrington, 21. They said she was walking in the roadway in the area of New and North Chapel streets when she was struck by a black vehicle.

After hitting Harrington, the vehicle fled the scene, striking a fence at Center Street and then a utility pole, which caused a power outage in the area.

Harrington was transported to Christiana Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries to her head and leg, police said.

Newark Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to call them at (302) 366-7110, extension 419, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
