'With Dream Awakened Eyes' on CFA stage Feb. 20
11:59 a.m., Feb. 12, 2007--With Dream Awakened Eyes, a play by Ellen Kaplan, a professor of theatre at Smith College, in Northampton, Mass., will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Center for the Arts. The play chronicles the life of Charlotte Salomon, a German-Jewish artist born in Weimar Germany who lived as a refugee in the south of France before she was murdered at Auschwitz at the age of 26. Salomon's paintings, which were hidden by friends when she was arrested, resurfaced long after her death. They now are housed in the Jewish Museum in Amsterdam and have been included in several international exhibitions. The play, which is sponsored by the Chaiken Center for Jewish Studies, is free and open to the public. For more information, call (302) 831-3324. |
