Engineers Week activities run the gamut from formal to fanciful

1:04 p.m., Feb. 15, 2007--UD will join in the 56th annual celebration of National Engineers Week, Feb. 18-24, with a wide range of activities, including broom hockey, workshops and a women in engineering mentoring reception.

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week is celebrated every year by engineers, engineering students, teachers and leaders in government and business.

UD's College of Engineering has organized a wide variety of activities in conjunction with the celebration. All events are open to members of the UD community unless otherwise noted.

Sunday, Feb. 18

Broom hockey--midnight-2 a.m., Rust Ice Arena, with chemical, electrical/computer, mechanical and civil/environmental engineering students competing in a round-robin tournament. Sponsored by Omega Chi Epsilon.

Women in engineering mentoring reception--2-2:30 p.m. (mentor/mentee participants only), 2:30-4 p.m. (general program), Multipurpose Rooms, Trabant University Center, event provides opportunity for UD students to interact with professional women engineers, faculty members and graduate students. Sponsored by UD College of Engineering and the Society of Women Engineers.__

Engineering poker tournament--3-10 p.m., Rodney Room, Perkins Student Center. Sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Monday, Feb. 19

EWeek kick-off reception--10-11 a.m., DuPont Hall lobby, open to all interested faculty, staff, students and alumni. Sponsored by UD College of Engineering.

Undergraduate research luncheons-- noon-1 p.m., 123 Spencer Lab, open to all interested faculty, staff, students and alumni. Sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Eta Kappa Nu.

How to dress professionally--5-6 p.m., location to be announced, a career professional will lead a workshop to provide career enhancing perspectives in the engineering workforce. Sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers.

Tuesday, Feb. 20

‘Engineers Make a World of Difference’ is this year’s Engineers Week theme.
Order of the Engineer Ring ceremony--
6:30-7:30 p.m., auditorium at Pearson Hall, a formal ceremony to induct students into the fellowship of engineers trained in science and technology, and dedicated to the teaching, administration, and/or practice of their profession. This event is for graduating seniors, graduate students and their families. Sponsored by UD College of Engineering.

Kinex building competition--9-10 p.m., open to interested faculty, staff and students. Sponsored by Alpha Omega Epsilon.

Wednesday, Feb. 21

Business etiquette luncheon--12:30-2:30 p.m., Blue & Gold Club. Check with Desiree Alexander in 102 DuPont Hall to see if any free tickets remain for this event at which an etiquette professional will offer practical guidance about the rules for dining in a professional or meeting situation. Sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

Senior design presentations--6 p.m. (social hour), 7 p.m. (dinner), 8:15 p.m. (student presentations), Clayton Hall, for projects completed in December by senior mechanical engineering students. College of Engineering EWeek banquet--6:30-9 p.m., Multipurpose Room, Trabant University Center, with guest speaker Allen M. Barnett, professor of electrical and computer engineering at UD.
