Ag community invited to energy conservation workshops

11:27 a.m., Feb. 15, 2007--Energy conservation workshops will be held in Kent and Sussex counties for farmers, agribusinesses and other members of Delaware's agricultural community.

The workshop in Sussex County is scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, at UD's Carvel Research and Education Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown.

The Kent County workshop will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 1, at UD's Paradee Center, 69 Transportation Circle, Dover.

The workshops are sponsored by DNREC's Delaware Energy Office, the First State Resource Conservation & Development Council, University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service and the USDA Rural Development Administration.

An overview and the findings of the Industries of the Future energy audits conducted for the poultry, dairy and greenhouse industries will be presented. A discussion of the financial and technical assistance available to the agricultural community also will be featured, along with information on energy conservation programs from the state of Delaware and from USDA.
