Direct support professionals' awards nominations open 4:43 p.m., Feb. 28, 2007--People with disabilities, their families, agencies, coworkers and friends are invited to nominate a direct support professional to receive one of five awards for exceptional work during Delaware's second Conference for Direct Support Professionals, coordinated by UD's Center for Disabilities Studies, on Thursday, May 3, at the Dover Downs Conference Center. Direct support professionals provide assistance and support to people with disabilities for a variety of activities, such as transportation, daily living and recreation. They include personal assistants, case managers, counselors, certified nursing assistants, home health aides, residential counselors and anyone who supports a person with disabilities to live more comfortably. To be eligible for the award, a direct support professional must have worked in the field for a minimum of one year and be providing support to a Delaware resident. Nominations must include a completed nomination form with a short narrative describing why the professional meets the criteria to be considered for the award. All nominations must be received by March 16. An interdisciplinary team of judges will choose five winners from the group of nominees. For more information or to obtain a nomination form, visit the conference web site at [www.udel.edu/cds/dspconference] or contact Debbie Bain at (302) 831-8733 or Becky Hudson at (302) 734-3800, extension 105. The mission of the Center for Disabilities Studies is to enhance the lives of individuals and families in Delaware through education, prevention, service and research related to disabilities. The center promotes independence and productivity so individuals and families can fully participate in the life of the community. |
