Talk on protecting fashion designs set Feb. 15

5:08 p.m., Feb. 8, 2007--UD's Legal Studies Program and the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies presents “Hey, Knock It Off: Protecting Fashion Designs,” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, in 115 Purnell Hall.

Hara K. Jacobs and Paul Lantieri III of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll in Philadelphia will discuss legal protection under trademark and copyright law for fashion design, trade dress and other intellectual property rights relevant to fashion designers and other creative artists.

Jacobs is a partner in the litigation department and a member of the
intellectual property group at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. She has litigated a wide variety of intellectual property matters relating to trademark, trade dress, copyright, right of publicity, trade secret, misappropriation and false advertising. She regularly litigates before the United States Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Jacobs also registers trademarks and copyrights and negotiates license agreements. Jacobs is co-author of the book U.S. Trade Dress Law: A Primer for the New Millennium.

Lantieri also is an associate in the litigation department and a member of the intellectual property group at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. His practice focuses on commercial litigation involving securities violations, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) cases, antitrust and related claims. Lantieri advises clients as to the legal aspects of advertising and engages in trademark and copyright litigation and counseling.
