Cello recital by Lawrence Stomberg set Feb. 17

1:50 p.m., Feb. 15, 2007--UD's Department of Music presents a recital by cellist Lawrence Stomberg, assistant professor of music, with Julie Nishimura, piano, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Center for the Arts.

Stomberg and Nishimura will perform works either from or influenced by France, including Francois Couperin's Pieces en Concert, a selection of Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, Igor Stravinsky's Suite Italienne and Frederic Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano.

As a member of the Serafin String Quartet, Stomberg performs at venues across the country and also has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at many music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, Sarasota Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, Kneisel Hall Festival and the Banff Centre for the Arts.

A committed performer of contemporary music, Stomberg has been involved with world premiere concerts at New York's Miller Theater and Merkin Hall and was a founding member of the piano trios Trilogy and the Johannes Trio, as well as the mixed ensemble Brightmusic. In 2000, Stomberg released a debut compact disc of solo contemporary music, The American Cello, and presented an all-American solo program in venues across the United States and China in the fall of 2006.

Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or Bob Carpenter Center box offices.
