Summer camps at UD information now online
1:03 p.m., Feb. 1, 2007--From learning about science and technology to mastering musical instruments or improving sports skills, summer camps at UD offer something for everyone in a fun-filled learning environment. Camp information is now available online at [www.udel.edu/camps/]. Academic camps offer participants in grades K-12 myriad activities and adventures, including attending college classes while living on the UD's Newark campus and the always-popular aerospace camp for the next generation of space explorers. New this year are the ECOQUEST environment-focused camps.. Other camps range from self-paced math and reading programs to theatre and learning about the environment. Sports camps at UD for girls and boys 7-18 include basic and advanced sports skills training in both competitive and noncompetitive learning situations. Sports include baseball, softball, football, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, field hockey, basketball and swimming. Music camps at UD offer students from pre-toddler to pre-college opportunities to develop musical skills, while engendering an appreciation for all types of music. Instruction also is provided on all types of instruments. A wide variety of musical styles are represented, ranging from jazz and classical to choral and middle-school band. Private study lessons also are available. Other camps for children 4-18 include a growing number of 4-H camps in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, as well as a program that focuses on childhood diabetes. New for 2007 are eight 4-H Hickory Tree camps at the Hickory Tree Community Center in Selbyville. The summer camps web site includes updated information received after the deadline for the print edition of UD's annual Summer Camp Guide, which is being distributed on campus this week.
