Black American Studies spring lecture series set 4:57 p.m., Feb. 13, 2007--UD's Black American Studies (BAMS) spring lecture series kicks off at 12:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, in room 206 of the Trabant University Center, with a talk on “Black American Studies at UD and Beyond: Past, Progress, Pitfalls and Promise,” by James M. Jones, director of UD's Black American Studies program and professor of psychology. The series, which is designed to provide presentations by UD faculty about issues of significance to Black American Studies, will feature one lecture a month. Lectures, with the exception of the one set for April 9, will run from 12:15-1:10 p.m. on selected Mondays in room 206 of the Trabant University Center. A summary of the topics and speakers for March, April and May follows. Monday, March 19--Maggie Ussery, UD assistant professor of Black American studies will lecture on a topic yet to be announced. Monday, April 19, 1:30-3 p.m.--Antonia Randolph, UD assistant professor of sociology, will lecture on “The Unintended Consequences of Colorblindness: How Race and Ethnicity Affect Teacher Perceptions.” Monday, May 14--Carla Guerron-Montero, assistant professor of anthropology, will lecture on “Afro-Antillean Constructions of Islandness in Caribbean Microstates and Archipelagos.” Informal discussions follow each lecture, and informal debate from audience members is encouraged.
