Albert named football associate head coach
8:38 a.m., Feb. 1, 2007--University of Delaware Head Coach K.C. Keeler has promoted Ben Albert, who will begin his second season with the UD football staff this fall, to associate head coach. Albert, 34, a former standout player at the University of Massachusetts who has served as a college assistant for 13 seasons, coaches linebackers for the Fightin' Blue Hens. As associate head coach, he fills the position formerly held by Jim Turner, who left the UD staff in January for a position at Boston College. A native of Paterson, N.J., Albert enjoyed an outstanding playing career as a nose guard and defensive tackle at Massachusetts from 1990-94. He received a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology from Massachusetts in 1995 and earned his master's in education from the university in 1997. Albert began his coaching career at Massachusetts in 1995 and served two years there as defensive line coach and academic resource coordinator. He moved to the University of Richmond, where he was linebackers and defensive line coach from 1997-00, and to Rutgers University, where he was the defensive line coach from 2001-02. After returning to Massachusetts and Richmond, Albert joined the UD staff last season. In addition to his experience in college coaching, Albert also worked as a minority fellowship intern with the National Football League's Oakland Raiders in 1999. |
