UD women’s basketball gains national attention

8:41 a.m., Dec. 21, 2006--After a hard-fought 63-62 victory at the University of Massachusetts on Sunday, the University of Delaware women's basketball team continues to receive national attention with votes in NCAA Division I top 25 polls.

The 9-1 Fightin' Blue Hens earned six votes in the most recent USA Today/ESPN poll and five in the Associated Press poll.

UD fans have one more chance to see the Hens before the holiday break, with a game against Fordham University at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Rams are 2-7.

The game will be broadcast on WTTX-AM The Ticket 1290 and on WDOV-AM 1410.

Senior guard Tyresa Smith leads the Hens, scoring 18.9 points per game. Senior forward Chrissy Fisher is scoring 15.6 points per game and leads the team with 84 rebounds. Tireless guard Kyle DeHaven has 40 steals and Alena Koshansky leads the team with 40 assists.
