UD women’s basketball defeats Drexel, 65-53

Chrissy Fisher had 15 points and eight rebounds in the Hens’ victory over Drexel.

8:59 a.m., Dec. 4, 2006--The University of Delaware women's basketball team won its Colonial Athletic Association opener, defeating host Drexel University 65-53 in a game played Sunday afternoon at the Daskalakis Center in Philadelphia.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens won their fifth straight game and improved to 6-1 overall. They will face a test at LaSalle University at 7 p.m., Tuesday, with the Explorers off to a 7-0 start. Like the Hens, they have defeated both Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania. UD will return to the Bob Carpenter Center for a game against Boston University at 1 p.m., Sunday.

Against Drexel, the Hens featured a balanced attack, with senior forward Chrissy Fisher scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds and guard Kyle DeHaven scoring a season-high 14 points and adding three assists and three steals. Also in double figures were guards Tyresa Smith, with 11 points, and Alena Koshansky, with 10.

“We didn't play our best basketball but we'll take the win and move on,” UD Head Coach Tina Martin said. “We have to play consistent basketball. Everything today was in spurts. I thought Chrissy wanted the ball today and she stepped up and came through for us.”

UD women's basketball games can be heard on WTTX-AM The Ticket 1290 and on WDOV-AM 1410.
