UD women’s swimming sweeps meet at Loyola
10:13 a.m., Dec. 4, 2006--The University of Delaware women's swimming team swept the competition at a meet held Friday and Saturday at Loyola College of Maryland in Baltimore. The Fightin' Blue Hens defeated host Loyola 277-101, Marist College 221-149 and Niagara University 296-71 to improve to 10-1 on the season. The UD men's team defeated Niagara 296-71 but fell 191-177 to Loyola and 244-126 to Marist. Their record is now 5-4. UD's Kellie Pastore won the women's 100 breaststroke (1:08.50) and 200 breaststroke (2:27.38), and finished third in the 200 individual medley. Also for the Hens, Stephanie House won the 200 butterfly (2:10.60), Rachel Greene won the 100 freestyle (54.04), Ellen Heinz won the 1,650 freestyle (17:47.69), Maryanne Walker won the 200 freestyle (1:55.34) and Meredith Law won the 400 individual medley (4:41.35). Greene finished second in the 50 freestyle, Michelle Stephens finished second in the 200 individual medley, Heinz finished second in the 500 freestyle, Walker finished second in the 200 backstroke and Sarah Begley finished second in the 100 butterfly. Walker also finished third in the 50 freestyle, Law was third in the 500 freestyle and Begley was third in the 100 freestyle. In the relays, UD won the 400 freestyle relay (Greene, Begley, Kendall Warren and Walker), the 200 medley relay (Emily Smathers, Pastore, Begley and Greene), the 200 freestyle relay (Greene, Warren, Begley and Walker), the 800 freestyle relay (Warren, House, Law and Walker) and the 400 medley relay (Brenna Davis, Pastore, Begley and Walker). Winners for the UD men's team were Andrew Zinn, who won the 50 freestyle (21.22) and diver Matt Abbruzzese, who won the three-meter dive (445.15 points) and finished second in the one-meter dive. Also for the Hens, Troy Sattgast finished second in the 200 butterfly, John Ohlhaver finished second in the 100 backstroke, Brendan Spencer finished third in the 200 butterfly, Joe Virion finished third in the 1,650 freestyle, Mark Erdosy finished third in the 100 breaststroke, Cory Sanderson finished third in the 400 individual medley and Ben Blotner finished third in the three-meter dive. |
