Brett Gerch is selected assistant strength coach

Brett Gerch has been named assistant strength and conditioning coach at UD.

8:35 a.m., Dec. 21, 2006--Brett J. Gerch, who has worked in strength and conditioning with collegiate, Olympic and professional athletes for the last 10 years, has been named assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Delaware.

Gerch received a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Appalachian State University in 2000 and a master's degree in physical education from Western Carolina University in 2002. He will assist Jason Beaulieu, UD's head strength and conditioning coach, in developing and supervising programs for 23 varsity teams and more than 600 scholar-athletes.

His main responsibilities will be working with the Fightin' Blue Hens football, baseball, softball, tennis, rowing and track and field teams.

"We are very fortunate to have hired Brett Gerch here at the University of Delaware,” Beaulieu said. “He brings a great deal of experience and knowledge in regards to training collegiate and professional athletes. He worked for me at the Velocity Sports Performance in Baltimore and then with the Baltimore Ravens, so I know we are hiring a quality coach."

Gerch served as head sports performance coach the last three years at Velocity Sports Performance and, while there, also spent two years with the National Football League's Baltimore Ravens as a part-time assistant strength coach. In 1999, he worked with athletes at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Following graduation, Gerch served at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, at Western Carolina and at the University of Richmond before joining Velocity Sports Performance. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and is a member of both the National Strength and Conditioning Association and USA Weightlifting.
