UD announces national, international skaters

8:40 a.m., Dec. 19, 2006--The University of Delaware is home to a large number of figure skating's brightest stars, headlined by American world champion Kimmie Meissner of the UD Figure Skating Club and Bulgarian ice dance world champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Stavisky.

In addition to Meissner, other U.S. National Team members training at UD's Ice Skating Science Development Center include senior ladies competitors Christine Zukowski, Megan Williams-Stewart and Melissa Bulanhagui and senior men Jordan Miller, Craig Ratterree, Shaun Rogers and Geoffry Varner.

U.S. national figure skating championships silver medalists Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov are among three senior ice dance teams, and they are joined by Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre and Kate Slattery and Chuen Gun Lee. UD also has a senior pair in Bridget Namiotka and John Coughlin.

Adam Rippon competes in junior men, Meg Byrne and Nate Bartholomay and Kaela Pflumm and Chris Pottenger in junior pairs and Lindsay Cohen and Evan Roberts and Clare Farrell and Chase Fishpaw in junior dance. Minna Lee and Taylor Toth compete in novice pairs and Sara Bailey and Kyle Herring, Isabella Cannuscio and Ian Lorello, Anastasia Cannuscio and Dean Copely and Genevieve Deutch and Alex Lorello in novice ice dance.

Members of the junior national team are Andrew Nagode in intermediate men, Holly Alexander in intermediate ladies, Emmanuel Savary in juvenile boys, Meara and Grant Lorello in juvenile dance and Meredith Pipkin and Ryan Troxell in juvenile pairs.

UD's international team features 2006 world ice dance champions Denkova and Staviski of Bulgaria, along with ice dancers Nozomi Wantanabe and Akiyuki Kido of Japan and singles skaters Joel Watson of New Zealand and Ami Parekh, who represents India.
