Synchronized skating team takes 4th place

The UD Synchronized Skating team finished fourth in a competition at the University of Michigan.

9:34 a.m., Dec. 13, 2006--The University of Delaware Synchronized Skating team finished fourth in the Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Skating Classic held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., Dec. 3.

The club will now compete in the eastern section competition held in Providence, R.I., in January. If they place fourth or better, the team will qualify to skate in the 2007 Synchronized Skating National Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo., where they will compete with the best teams in the country.

UD's team is the defending bronze medalist, the only East Coast team to medal in the past eight years.

There are 26 women on the team, which formed in 1979 under the name the Precisionaires. Last year, the Precisionaires officially changed their name to the University of Delaware Synchronized Skating Team.

During the last four years, the team received three national medals, and it is the defending eastern sectional champions in the collegiate division.
