Delaware rowing team announces Va. recruit

9:26 a.m., Dec. 5, 2006--Meredith Rubin, a standout performer at Langley (Va.) High School, has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Delaware and compete for the rowing team, Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach Laura Slice has announced.

Rubin, a native of McLean, Va., will enroll at UD next fall. “We are very excited to have Meredith sign early with our program,” Slice said. “Meredith has had great success as a high school rower and we are excited to see her contribution to the speed of our team."

Rubin serves as captain of the rowing team at Langley and is also a member of the swimming and diving team. She led Langley to a second place finish at the 2005 Virginia State Rowing Championships in the senior fours event and finished fourth at the 2005 Nationals in the junior fours. She also helped her boat advance to the finals at the prestigious Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia last year.

UD will open the 2007 spring season on March 10 with a dual meet against St. Joseph's University.
