Newark Police investigate rape on James F. Hall Trail

6:31 p.m., Dec. 22, 2006--Newark Police are investigating the rape of a 16-year-old Newark woman that occurred around 7:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, between Academy and Manuel streets on the James F. Hall Trail, which runs parallel to the Amtrak train tracks in Newark.

While walking on the trail, the woman was confronted by a man in his 40s, with a large build. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with dark hair, mustache and bushy eyebrows, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. He forced the woman to the side of the trail, where he forcibly raped her. No weapon was displayed or implied. During the incident, he spoke to the woman in Spanish. After the assault, he ran away eastbound on the trail.

The woman was treated at Christiana Hospital and released.
