VCU defeats Delaware in CAA men’s basketball

UD’s Herb Courtney scored 25 points in the loss to VCU.

8:39 a.m., Dec. 21, 2006--Virginia Commonwealth University defeated the University of Delaware 79-60 in a Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball game played Wednesday night in Richmond.

With the loss, the Fightin' Blue Hens fell to 0-8. UD will return to action with a game at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. UNC Greensboro is 3-6.

Of the loss to Virginia Commonwealth, UD Head Coach Monté Ross said, “We were very surprised by their press in the first half but we made some adjustments and did a better job of getting the ball over half court and into our offense in the second half. Our guys did a great job of bouncing back in the second half and doing what we wanted to do on offense. We were down eight in the second half and had two great shots but they didn't go down.”

The Hens were led by junior forward Herb Courtney, who had 25 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Zaire Taylor had 12 points, senior guard Calvin Cannon had 10 points and junior Sam McMahon had a team-high eight rebounds.
