UD hotel staff gives a holiday helping hand

4:01 p.m., Dec. 15, 2006--The staff of the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel, with the help of Jordan Weitzman and Benjamin Lowell, students in the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, played Santa to seven needy families in Newark.

The staff conducted a food drive and collected more than 2,000 canned and other types of nonperishable food items, plus diapers, coats, gloves, blankets and toys. The hotel purchased the remaining items on the children's wish list.

It was a team effort and an opportunity to give back to the community, according to Bill Sullivan, hotel manager.
