Hundreds of hoodies collected for those in need 4:17 p.m., Dec. 19, 2006--The campus responded with an outpouring of holiday generosity, when UD's Catholic Campus Ministry, Kappa Delta Pi and Mortar Board asked for donations of lightly used hoodie sweatshirts to keep kids warm this winter. “The drive was a huge success. We collected 234 hoodies! The church was thrilled to receive them all,” Karen Anderson, the senior who conceived of and coordinated the drive, said. The "gently used" hoodies were given to the Newark United Methodist Church on Main Street for distribution to people in shelters. The University Bookstore in the Perkins Student Center and the YoUDee Shop in the Trabant University Center collected the sweatshirts from Nov. 20-Dec. 11. For each hoodie donated, the donor received a coupon for 35 percent off on a new UD hoodie at the UD bookstore. Anderson thanked the UD Bookstore for cosponsoring the hoodie drive. "It wouldn't have been nearly as big a success without the Bookstore," she said. |
