UD Library Associates membership drive under way

5:03 p.m., Dec. 14, 2006--The University of Delaware Library Associates (UDLA), the “friends group” of the University of Delaware Library founded in 1958, has begun a membership drive and new members are actively being sought for membership. Annual contributions begin at $35 for Friends and begin at $5 for students. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

UDLA works to expand and to enrich the research collections of the University of Delaware Library through contributions from members. UDLA also sponsors publications and activities that make the collections better known to national scholarly communities and to members of the general public.

Interested individuals are invited to review an online version of the membership brochure at [http://www2.lib.udel.edu/udla]. A printed membership brochure can be requested by calling the Office of the Director of Libraries at (302) 831-2231.

Next year will be an exciting one for UDLA members with Nathaniel Philbrick, award-winning author of The Mayflower, speaking at the annual dinner on April 30, and McKay Jenkins, Cornelius Tilghman Professor of English at UD, speaking on “God and Murder in the Arctic Barren Lands” at the annual faculty lecture on June 12. In addition, an issue of the journal, Collections, will be published in the spring and will include an article about the forthcoming colorful exhibition in the Morris Library titled “The Animal Kingdom: Six Centuries of Zoological Illustration.”

Each year contributions of the University of Delaware Library Associates assist financially with the acquisition of rare library materials. Members also receive a semiannual Newsletter of the University of Delaware Library Associates, exhibition catalogs and Collections.
