Students excel at ballroom dance

Besides the Charleston, junior Kaitlin McGowan and senior Mark Molaison excel at the mambo and rumba.

5:21 p.m., Dec. 11, 2006--Kaitlin McGowan, a junior and Mark Molaison, a senior, members of the University of Delaware Ballroom Dance Team, took first and second place for mambo and rumba, respectively, in the American Rhythm bronze category in the D.C. Dancesport Inferno 2006 competition held at the University of Maryland, Oct. 27-29.

The regional ballroom dancing competition is open to collegiate and noncollegiate amateur dance couples.

McGowan and Molaison have been dance partners for more than a year.

In May, McGowan and Molaison competed at Princeton University in American Rhythm, the general newcomer category, winning for their rumba, tango, waltz and swing dances.
