Cybersecurity expert to discuss crisis Dec. 6

11:51 a.m., Dec. 4, 2006--Eugene H. Spafford, professor of computer sciences at Purdue University, will speak on the topic “Insanity Rules: The Growing Cybersecurity Crisis” from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, in 104 Gore Hall. The presentation is part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by UD's Department of Computer and Information Sciences and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

At Purdue, Spafford is executive director of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), a multi-disciplinary center that explores issues related to protecting information and information resources.

One of the most senior and recognized leaders in the field of computing, Spafford is a fellow with the Association for Computing Machinery, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is a charter recipient of the IEEE Computer Society Golden Core recognition program.

Spafford was the recipient of the 2000 national computer systems security award, presented by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Computer Security Center and generally regarded as the field's most significant honor in information security research.
