CAA swimmers, divers get midseason report

UD junior Andrew Zinn is ranked fourth in the CAA in the 50 freestyle.

9:04 a.m., Dec. 20, 2006--The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its midseason list of top times for conference swimmers and divers, and the University of Delaware men's and women's teams are well represented.

UD competitors are in the top 10 in seven women's events and eight men's events. The top times lists are used in seeding the individual swimmers for the CAA championships to be held Feb. 14-17 at George Mason University. An updated list will be released in February.

UD's top rated swimmer is junior Andrew Zinn, who is ranked fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.10. Other top 10 rated individuals for the Hens are sophomore John Ohlhaver, seventh in the 100 backstroke (53.83); freshman Grady Carter, ninth in the 50 freestyle (21.31); and senior Joe Virion, tenth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:52.57).

UD's 200 freestyle relay team of senior Brendan Spencer, junior Adam Blomberg, Ohlhaver and Zinn is ranked eighth (1:27.36); the 400 freestyle relay team of Ohlhaver, freshman Brad Damtoft, Blomberg and Zinn is ranked ninth (3:11.60); and the 200 medley relay team of Ohlhaver, freshman Matt Rathbun, Carter and Zinn is ranked tenth (1:37.19).

In diving, UD sophomore Matt Abbruzzese is ranked third in the three-meter (284.49 points) and fourth in the one-meter (284.90) events. Freshman Ben Blotner is fifth in the three-meter (271.80) and seventh in the one-meter (235.70) and freshman Tom Gallagher is sixth in the one-meter (237.75).

For the UD women, sophomore Maryann Walker is ranked fourth in the backstroke (2:07.31), sophomore Kellie Pastore is sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.55) and ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.42), and sophomore Stephanie House is eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:08.92).

In the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of sophomore Emily Smathers, Pastore, sophomore Sarah Begley and Walker is eighth (1:50.40); the 400 medley relay team of sophomore Brenna Davis, Pastore, Begley and Walker is ninth (3:59.16); and the 400 freestyle relay team of Begley, freshman Rachel Greene, senior Kendall Warren and Walker is 10th (3:35.26).

In diving, senior Sarah Bergan is second (313.65) and senior Emily Pretz is third (312.80) in the three-meter event. In that same event, UD junior Stevie Dreher is fifth (280.35) and freshman Lisa Goyette is eighth (257.60).

The UD women's team is 10-1 in dual meets, and the men's team 5-4. Both teams will resume action Jan. 6 at Towson University.
