Police charge driver in fatal collision

6:58 p.m., Dec. 4, 2006--Newark Police have charged Christopher Monaco, 20, of Brookside, with second degree murder for his involvement in a car accident that occurred around 9:15 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, at Elkton and Casho Mill roads. The crash claimed the life of Chinsu Park Un, 78, of Newark.

She was turning left from Elkton Road onto Casho Mill Road when her car was struck by a car on Elkton Road, driven by Monaco. The force of the collision forced Ms. Un's vehicle to break in two, and she was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital shortly after the crash.

Monaco was arraigned through J.P. Court #2. He was released on $25,000 secured bail pending a future court appearance.

The Newark Police Department Traffic Division is continuing its investigation of the collision.
