East-West Shrine Game to include UD’s Patrick

UD’s Ben Patrick will compete in the East-West Shrine Game.

9:10 a.m., Dec. 20, 2006--The University of Delaware's Ben Patrick, a consensus All-America at tight end, has been selected to play in the 82nd annual East-West Shrine Football All-Star Game on Jan. 20 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Patrick is the second UD player selected to compete in the showcase game, joining defensive back Sidney Haugabrook who played in the 2005 contest.

Patrick, a first-year transfer from Duke University, was selected earlier this fall to play in the Hula Bowl in Hawaii but has decided to concentrate on the East-West Shrine game for his only post-season appearance prior to the National Football League draft in April.

The East-West Shrine game will match two Hall of Fame coaches, as Don Shula will coach the East and Dan Reeves will coach the West. Among the players selected to join Patrick on the East squad is University of New Hampshire wide receiver David Ball.
