'Active U' fitness challenge winners announced

2:11 p.m., Dec. 21, 2006--This year's grand-prize winner of the Employee Wellness Center's “Active U” fall fitness program is Cheryl Kowalski, senior secretary in the Office of the President.

Kowalski received a $300 travel voucher from Uniglobe Charlie B. and Red Carpet Travels.

Employees were given the option of participating as individuals or part of a five-person team.

The winning team was the "Activettes" in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. Members included
Nancy Getchell, Beth Orsega-Smith, Lee Raymond, Stephanie Shields and Gail Mattix. They won a catered boxed lunch from U.D. Dining Services.

Program participants selected from three goal levels and then tracked their minutes of physical activity in a log each week for eight weeks. Those who completed the program and met their fitness goals received an "Active U" T-shirt and were eligible for the grand-prize drawing.
