Blue Hen teams ready for opening weekend

8:49 a.m., Aug. 23, 2006--The fall sports season will get under way this weekend, with four University of Delaware varsity teams in action and two of those on campus.

UD's volleyball team will open its season by playing host to the Delaware Invitational Tournament at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building. Tournament action will begin at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, when the University of Texas Arlington takes the floor against Seton Hall University. At 7 p.m., Head Coach Bonnie Kenny's Fightin' Blue Hens will take on Marist College.

Tournament action will resume on Saturday, Aug. 26, with Marist taking on UT Arlington at 11 a.m., UD facing Seton Hall at 1 p.m., Seton Hall facing Marist at 5 p.m., and the Hens closing action against UT Arlington at 7 p.m.

The women's soccer team, lead by Head Coach Scott Grzenda, will play a pair of game at the Delaware Mini-Stadium this weekend. The Hens will face St. Joseph's University at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, and Seton Hall at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27.

First year Head Coach Ian Hennessy will lead the men's soccer team into action at the Towson University Kickoff Tournament this weekend. The Hens will face Loyola College of Maryland at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, and Adelphi University at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27.

UD's field hockey team, led by Head Coach Carol Miller, will open the season at the Champion's Tournament at Duke University. The Hens will face Michigan State University at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, and either Duke or the University of Louisville on Sunday, Aug. 27.
