Football coaching staff gets new offices in The Bob
5:28 p.m., Aug. 24, 2006--When the Fightin' Blue Hens take to a newly resurfaced Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium for the season opener at 7 p.m, Saturday, Sept. 9, Head Coach K.C. Keeler and his staff also will occupy a new set of offices in the Bob Carpenter Center. Located in the northwest corner of The Bob, the 3,300-square-foot office suite matches the décor of the existing office space. The addition will contain 10 offices, two meeting rooms, a reception area and a display area for some of the many honors the Hens have earned, including the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national championship trophy. “This addition will greatly enhance the day-to-day working area of the entire football staff and will provide additional meeting space for the football team's group meetings,” Edgar Johnson, director of athletics, said. “The addition is an attractive and functional area that will be fully utilized to the benefit of our coaches, staff and scholar-athletes.” The move also means that the men's basketball and women's basketball coaching staffs, as well as staff members from the departments of sports information and sports marketing will be able use the space vacated by the football coaching staff. “This move will correspondingly enhance the work area of these staff members as well,” Johnson said. The new offices will include a display area to showcase the Blue Hens NCAA Division I-AA 2003 national championship trophy, the sixth national title in UD history and the first since 1979, when Keeler played on the Division II national title team. The move to new quarters also marks the move to a new computing system that features digitalized video clips of practice and game action for the Hens. “During the next two years, everything will be digital, except for the film we send to potential recruits,” Keeler said. “It will allow coaches to do things like break down practice films and display them on their laptop computers. A zoom feature will allow coaches to get a good look at how players are positioned during scrimmage and game situations.” Keeler said that the new defensive and offensive staff meeting rooms will allow defensive coaching assistants to bring the entire defensive line into the room for a meeting, as well as providing meeting and discussion areas for quarterback, running back and tight ends coaches and players. Also moving into the new football office area is Jerry Oravitz, director of football operations. “This is a really nice area, and it will help with recruiting,” Keeler said. “We needed the space, and it turned out better than I thought it would. We are really excited about this.” Article by Jerry Rhodes |
