New UD Head Coach Ian Hennessy

1:11 p.m., Aug. 4, 2006--Old Dominion University, which last season reached the second round of the NCAA Division I championship tournament, has been picked to win the Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer title in 2006, according to a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.

The University of Delaware, under new Head Coach Ian Hennessy, was picked to finish last.

Old Dominion received eight first-place votes and 117 total points while Hofstra University, which has won the past two CAA championships, received two first-place votes and was picked second with 109 points. James Madison University, which has nine starters back from its 2005 NCAA tournament squad, got one first-place vote and was third with 97 points, while Virginia Commonwealth University also received a first-place vote and was fourth with 93 points.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington was picked fifth in the poll, followed by George Mason University, Towson University, the College of William & Mary, Northeastern University, Georgia State University, Drexel University and the Fightin' Blue Hens.

Hennessy is preparing for his first season as UD head coach after serving the last four as an assistant at Boston College. Among the returning Hens is senior defender Matt Haney, a first team College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American.

The Hens are scheduled to compete in the Towson University Kickoff Tournament later this month, taking on Loyola College at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, and Adelphia University at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27. Games will be played at the Towson Center Field.

UD's home opener will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, against Villanova University at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
