Frengs named new women’s lax assistant coach

Liz Frengs

2:44 p.m., Aug. 22, 2006--Liz Frengs, who served as a volunteer assistant for the UD women's lacrosse team last spring, has been named the team's top assistant coach. Kim Ciarrocca, UD women's lacrosse head coach, made the announcement Aug. 21.

A former standout player and student assistant coach under Ciarrocca at Temple University, Frengs replaces Alex Kahoe, who left in July to become assistant coach at Duke University in Durham, N.C. The Blue Hen women's lacrosse staff also includes Reid Watson, a third-year, part-time assistant.

Joining the Hens in December, Frengs helped lead the women's lacrosse team to a 5-12 record last season.

“I am very excited about having Liz remain with our staff in a full-time role,” Ciarrocca said. “Liz is a great recruiter and teacher of the game. She understands how to teach players the fundamentals and is versatile. As a former midfielder, she is able to coach both the offense and defense. Liz has already made an impact on this program as a volunteer coach. She has been a perfect fit for our program and our players.”

Starting in 60 of 61 career games, Frengs recorded 83 goals and 32 assists while adding 141 groundballs and 67 controls, and was part of a team that earned a four-year record of 47-26 under Ciarrocca's tenure as head coach.

A native of Collingswood, N.J., Frengs was a standout midfielder at Temple from 2000-04, where she helped the Owls in taking three straight Atlantic 10 Conference titles as a player and a student assistant coach.

Named regional All-American as a sophomore, Frengs earned All-Atlantic 10 first-team honors for the 2001 and 2002 seasons and was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team during each of her three seasons as a player.
