UD ranks 10th in chemistry, biochemistry grads

4:01 p.m., Aug. 22, 2006--UD's American Chemical Society (ACS) certified chemistry and biochemistry program graduated the 10th largest number of bachelor's degree students in 2005 out of the 634 ACS-certified programs nationwide.

Each year, ACS ranks college and university departments with chemistry undergraduate programs approved by the organization.

The 2004-05 school year produced 10,947 ACS-certified chemistry and biochemistry graduates, 8 percent higher than in 2003-04.

UD's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry graduated 39 students, ranking it above the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Chicago.

The University of Texas at Austin was first with 142 ACS-certified graduates.
