Freshman Family Weekend set Sept. 15-17

2:35 p.m., Aug. 11, 2006--Freshman Family Weekend, which runs from Friday-Sunday, Sept. 15-17, is a great way for freshmen, transfer students, parents and family members to get together and enjoy their new association with UD.

Although the weekend's activities are open to anyone, the parents and families of new freshmen and transfer students are especially encouraged to attend the many events planned for the weekend.

Friday's activities begin at 11 a.m., with “One on One: Image and Response,” featuring selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection, with responses by 20 writers, on view until 4 p.m., in Mechanical Hall. The free public exhibition also will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, and from 1-4 p.m., Sunday.

Also featured on Friday are Dinner at the Blue & Gold Club, with seating at 5, 6:30 and 9 p.m.; UD field hockey against Albany, 7 p.m., in Rullo Stadium; volleyball action with UD vs. Delaware State University, 7 p.m., Barb Viera Court, Carpenter Sports Buildling; and ComedySportz, the “fastest and funniest form of comedy you've ever seen,” with 7:30 and 10 p.m. performances in Mitchell Hall.

Saturday's events include Freshman Family Weekend Lunch, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., in Kent Dining Hall; and Dessert with the Deans, an opportunity to meet UD administrators, faculty and staff, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., on The Green outside of Gore Hall.

Events with an academic enrichment theme include information about “Study Abroad Programs,” at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.; “Developing Good Study Habits,” from 1:30-2:15 p.m.; and “Back to Class,” faculty lectures, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., all in Gore Hall.

Evening events include a tailgate dinner and pep rally from 5-7 p.m., in Delaware Field House; a Fightin' Blue Hens vs. Albany football game at 7 p.m. in Delaware Stadium; and open ice skating at the Fred Rust Ice Arena from 8-10 p.m.

ComedySportz, appearing in two shows at Mitchell Hall on Friday evening, Sept. 15, promises to serve up an interactive improv experience.
Sunday dining offerings include brunch at the Blue & Gold Club, with seatings at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.; and Brunch University Style, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in Kent, Rodney, Russell and Pencader dining halls.

A perennial favorite is Newark Community Day, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at various campus and community locations, featuring the best of the University and Newark in a fun-filled day for all ages.

More weekend family fun on the ice is available from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, in the Fred Rust Ice Arena.
